My Forest School experience!

During the October half-term holiday, I spent my week at Corsham Forest School training!

I had 5 days of pure fun!

Forest school is something I have always wanted to do since first starting work in nurseries so now being given the opportunity to train in it and create my own forest school with your little ones is just amazing! I think it is such a good approach to learning and so beneficial for the children. I personally love being outdoors and love what can be done outdoors.

Forest school can be such a good way to try new risks in a controlled environment!

This is a bit of how my week went...

Day 1 – Woodland Environment

Day 2 – Learning & Development of a forest school program

Day 3 – Planning a Forest School program

Day 4 – Practical skills for a Forest School program

Day 5 – Delivery of a Forest School program

I learned such a range of activities from tool work to fire making, uses for clay in the outdoor area, art out of your surroundings, hapa zome, and lots more that I absolutely loved!

My personal favorite was the tool work and the fires! There is such a wide range of things you can do with both of these things which I am so excited about!

As well as activities I also learned a lot about the environment around us, including tree’s, plants and habitats. This is something I will definitely be teaching the children in hopefully a nice fun way! (Forest school can be so much fun but also so beneficial for their learning!!)

I am going to be running sessions of up to about 8 children and we will be going off to explore and taking part in new exciting activities weekly!

We will definitely need warm wellies or even snow boots! Waterproofs, warm coats (if these things aren’t already here) however, be warned we will be getting very messy so things that you don’t mind potentially getting slightly ruined but we will be having so much fun!
